Lena Recollet - A First Nations Versatile Artist
The way things are going, it looks like combining the visual arts with the performing arts is something Lena Recollet who is Anishnaabe from Wikwemikong will be doing more often. Her EP released on National Aboriginal Day at Dundas Square (June 21st'11). Which lead to a busy Fall season! After performing poetry between sets at David Pecault Square, Sundays Canada Walk of Fame Celebrating Women, she was part of the group installation entitled "Medicine Walk" at Nuit Blanche Toronto 2011. She then went home and opened as both a performing artist and exhibited her art installation "Unstagnated" for the 6 Foot Festival at the Debajehmujig Creation Centre. But the highlight was when she collaborated with filmmaker Keesic Douglas for her poetry film "Historical Landmark - I Am Woman" which premiered at imagineNATIVE Film + Media Festival before she opened for Buffy St.Marie!
